Karen Hanretty, Communications Director, California Republican Party

Karen Hanretty is a spokesperson for the California Republican Party. She was interviewed this afternoon by California Politics Today. Mostly, she spoke about California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley and California's Proposition 71, with a brief comment about the need to contact the office of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger directly for his view on the recently-introduced "Arnie's Amendment," a proposed constitutional amendment proposed by U.S. Representative Dana Rohrabacher, which would make it possible for him to become President of the United States.

Ms. Hanretty supported the call in today's Sacramento Bee calling for Secretary Shelley to resign immediately or face impeachment proceedings in the California Legislature.

Ms. Hanretty was skeptical about who would bear the burden and who would reap the benefits under the terms of Proposition 71, an initiative measure on the November ballot that would provide $3 billion in bonded debt (to be paid back with $6 billion in tax money) to underwrite embryonic stem cell research in California.
