In a recent (July 25, 2005) California Politics Today article entitled "California State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) updates SB 682 developments, warns of "surveillance by skimming" dangers, says he wants more discussion", Senator Simitian made the case for passing SB 682, which would impose a three-year moratorium on the mass issuance of any California state identification documents using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
Now California Politics Today has interviewed Roxanne Gould, spokesperson for the newly-created "High-Tech Trust Coalition," to get the other side of the story.
The High-Tech Trust Coalition, which includes among its members the AeA (American Electronics Association), ActivCard, California Chamber of Commerce, CMTA (California Manufacturer & Technology Association), EDS, Gemplus, Oracle Corporation, Philips Electronics, SIA (Semiconductor Industry Association), Texas Instruments, and VICA (Valley Industry Commerce Association), was, according to Ms. Gould, established with a single purpose: to prevent the passage of SB 682 in its present form.
