On July 25, 2005, California State Senator Joe Simitian, who represents the residents of Palo Alto and adjacent areas, appeared on California Politics Today to make the case in favor of SB 682, a bill now pending in the California Legislature that would criminalize "skimming" of personal data using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, specify and require various privacy protections regarding its use, and impose a three-year moratorium on the mass roll-out of state-mandated identification documents employing RFID.

You can hear what he had to say by clicking on the title of the article containing the audio recording of his appearance: "California State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) updates SB 682 developments, warns of "surveillance by skimming" dangers, says he wants more discussion.".

On July 29, 2005, Roxanne Gould, Director of Communications for the American Electronics Association and spokesperson for the High-Tech Trust Coalition, appeared on California Politics Today to make the case against passing SB682, at least in its present form.

You can hear what she had to say by clicking on the title of the article containing the audio recording of her appearance: "Roxanne Gould, High-Tech Trust Coalition spokesperson, makes the case against SB 682".

This afternoon both Senator Simitian and Ms. Gould appeared together on a special episode of California Politics Today to discuss SB 682 and the issues surrounding it.

You can listen to that discussion between California State Senator Joe Simitian, author of SB 682, and High-Tech Trust Coalition spokesperson Roxanne Gould, opponent of SB 682, at least in its present form, by clicking here.
