Clean Money/Clean Elections bill for California passes crucial vote in California Assembly Elections Committee

The "California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act of 2006," AB 583, authored by California Assemblymember Loni Hancock (D-14th A.D.), passed the Assembly Elections Committee at the State Capitol in Sacramento this afternoon by a razor-thin 4-to-3 vote. Assemblymember Hancock represents residents of Berkeley and other East Bay cities.

California Nurses Association issues press release praising the Election Committee's action

According to a press release issued this afternoon by the California Nurses Association (CNA), which strongly supported the measure:

"Voting for the bill today were Assembly members Johan Klehs (D-Hayward), Betty Karnette (D-Long Beach), Mark Leno (D-SF), and Lloyd Levine (D-Van Nuys). Voting no were Tom Umberg (D-Anaheim), Mark Wyland (R-Vista), and Michael Villines (R-Clovis)."
