what's next for AB 583
AB 583 now moves on to the California State Senate for consideration, where it is expected to be heard in the Senate Elections Committee, chaired by California State Senator Debra Bowen, sometime around the middle of February.
If the bill passes that committee, and then the California State Senate as a whole, it will go into an Assembly-Senate conference committee, where final details, especially as regards the level of funding to be made available to publicly-financed candidates, will be worked out.
Assemblymember Hancock indicated in today's interview that the mostly likely time when a successfully-passed version of AB 583 would go before California voters for an up-or-down vote on this measure would be November, 2008.
