a video interview with the Chairman of the Board of the California Cable and Telecommunications Association
Eric Brown, Senior Vice President, Western Division, Charter Communications, and Chairman of the Board of the California Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA), is a principal opponent of AB2987, the "Digital Infrastructure and Cable Competition Act of 2006," at least in its present form.
This legislation, co-authored by California Assembly Speaker Fabián Núñez and California Assembly Utilities and Commerce Chair Lloyd Levine, will, if passed and signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger, allow telephone companies such as Verizon and AT&T and, eventually, cable companies like Time Warner, Comcast, and Charter Communications, to receive "state-issued authorizations" to offer video delivery services without needing to negotiate and enter into franchise agreements with California municipalities.
Mr. Brown spoke this afternoon in his office at Charter Communications in Long Beach, California, with > California Politics Today and the Online Broadcasting Service (OBS)'s "Campaign to Pass AB2987" Channel about that legislation and its impact on the telecommunications future of California.
