Jonathan Tasini, Democratic primary challenger to U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton

Jonathan Tasini is challenging potential Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in her U.S. Senate re-election race

An August 20, 2006, cover story in Time Magazine touting Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator from New York State, for President of the United States, dismisses Jonathan Tasini, who is challenging her in the September 12, 2006, state Democratic Senatorial primary, as "virtually nonexistent opposition for her Senate seat."

Senator Clinton has refused to debate Mr. Tasini, even against the advice of the New York Times in its August 21, 2006, editorial entitled "Hillary Clinton’s Low Profile", in which the Times editors say:

"With only a few weeks until New York’s Sept. 12 primary elections, many people are probably still unaware that Senator Hillary Clinton is facing a challenge for the Democratic nomination. Her opponent, Jonathan Tasini, is low on almost everything, from funds to name recognition. Mrs. Clinton has successfully ignored Mr. Tasini all summer, and now it seems clear that she has no intention of responding to his demands that she meet him in a debate."
