the race for Congress in California's 45th Congressional District pits Republican U.S. Representative Mary Bono against Democratic challenger David Roth

Mary Bono, the widow of pop star Sonny Bono, replaced him in Congress after his tragic death. She's running for re-election to Congress from the 45th Congressional District of California, which contains the cities of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, and Indio, as well as the Salton Sea. Congresswoman Bono is being challenged in the November, 2006, election by Democratic Congressional nominee David Roth. You can visit the Congressional campaign web site of Mr. Roth by clicking here.

an audio interview with Democratic Congressional challenger David Roth

California Politics Today spoke this afternoon for almost an hour with Democratic Congressional candidate David Roth about the issues in this campaign. California Politics Today will offer equal time to discuss the issues in this campaign to incumbent Repubican Congresswoman Mary Bono.

Voters in the 45th Congressional District of California, and others interested in this race, can listen to today's conversation with David Roth, in part or in its entirety, by clicking on the appropriate menu button in the 45th California C.D. Election Channel Brightcove Player below.

During the course of that interview, Mr. Roth discussed his campaign, answered questions about pressing issues of public concern, and made the point that despite many offers from him, the incumbent Congressperson, Mary Bono, has refused to meet him for one or more public debates on the issues facing voters in the 45th Congressional District of California.

Also during this interview, candidate Roth put forth his own views on a wide range of issues, including global warming, peak oil, medical insurance, re-instating the draft, the War in Iraq, U.S. policy towards Iran, abortion, embryonic stem cell research, tax policy, the estate tax, the minimum wage, education, immigration, gay marriage, the medical and recreational use of marijuana, the public financing of elections, and the role of ethical considerations in the making of public policy.

Mr. Roth strongly supported taking advantage of the vast solar resources to be found in the 45th district (he said it has sunshine 355 days a year) for generating energy within the confines of the area he is seeking to represent in Washington.
