Allan Hoffenblum is publisher of the California Target Book and owner of Allan Hoffenblum & Associates, a political consulting firm based in Los Angeles.

Mr. Hoffenblum spoke this afternoon with California Politics Today reporter Marc Strassman about the recently-officially-launched 2008 presidential campaign of U.S. Senator John McCain and about the rival candidacies of other Republican Presidential hopefuls, including former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and a possible candidate, former U.S. Senator and fictional (Law and Order) New York City District Attorney Fred Dalton Thompson.

Mr. Hoffenblum said that most Republicans support President Bush’s “surge” in Iraq; that most Americans currently don‘t support the President on the war; and that the evolution of the situation in Iraq between now and the election would have a significant impact on the likelihood of a Republican presidential victory in 2008
