Ann Louise Bardach is the reporter who researched and wrote Taming the Hydra-Headed Carnivorous Beast-- THE HUSH-HUSH DEAL THAT MADE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER GOVERNOR, the September, 2004, lead article in los angeles MAGAZINE ONLINE.

In her article, Ms. Bardach relates how, after his plan to run for Governor of California against Gray Davis was thwarted in 2002 by two revelatory articles about his "bad boy" escapades, the Hollywood action star entered into an agreement with the "king of the tabloids" that resulted in essentially Arnold-free check-out stands, as well as a quarter-million dollar annual payday for the Austrian-born former bodybuilder.

This arrangement made it possible, according to the author, for Mr. Schwarzenegger to run for and win the governorship of California in the colorful recall election of 2003.

For his part, tabloid owner David Pecker stands to benefit, according to Ms. Bardach, from the prestige of being business partners with Mr. Schwarzenegger, as well as possible assistance in preventing further government action against possibly-dangerous steroid-like "nutritional supplements" the advertising for which constitutes a healthy share of the revenues he derives from body-building magazines of which he has made Governor Schwarzenegger the executive editor.
